Trans*Buddhists offers study resource -- Developing Trans*Competence: A Short Guide to Improving Transgender Experiences at Meditation and Retreat Centers

The Transfaith Trans Basics section includes some quick reference items to assist in gaining understanding of transgender experiences. It includes a 20 minute video (not faith based), which provides an excellent, audio-visual overview.

This workbook from Raven Kaldera explores both spiritual history and our modern predicaments, with group exercises, community service project suggestions, rituals, and interviews with people from all over both the transgender spectrum.

This free, 27-min video was produced for the Episcopal Church, but speaks easily to the stories of many Christian transgender people. It is a well done, introduction touching on the ways that faith journeys and gender journeys intersect.

This one session workshop design by Rabbi Elliot Kukla and Reuben Zellman opens up a conversation about gender, drawing on Jewish text and tradition.

This course guide from the National Center for Transgender Equality provides a straight-forward approach to leading a one-session training on transgender issues, including telling your own story.

transACTION: A Transgender Curriculum For Churches and Religious Institutions by Barbara Satin/Institute for Welcoming Resources/NGLTF is a specifically Christian program that includes discussions and activities to go along with the information provided in the curriculum. PDF is free online, including a leader's guide.

Teaching Intersex Issues (kit) by Intersex Society of North America is designed for undergraduate classes and offers instructors a two-week unit on intersex issues in a format that can easily be added to existing syllabi, expanded to constitute an entire course, or trimmed down to a few class sessions.

This free PDF from the Unitarian Universalist Association includes many articles by a variety of authors from different faith traditions.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) released "Gender Identity and Our Faith Communities: A Congregational Guide for Transgender Advocacy," which is a workshop curriculum accompanied by articles and audio content. It is designed to be presented in 3-hours of class time and includes both Jewish and Christian content.

This 90-minute feature-length documentary is available online for free and follows a twenty-five year-old seminary student as he explores faith, love, and gender identity. Cameos by other notable transgender people help to broaden the picture painted by the United Church of Christ with this film.

"Made in God's Image" is 24-page booklet is a concise overview of transgender concerns within the context of Christian faith communities, including diverse pictures of transgender individuals. Developed by Dumbarton United Methodist Church. 2003. 

This remix of footage from other films and sources provides a 12 minute introduction to Two Spirit identities in Native American societies.

This powerful feature-length film from 2009 tells the story of Fred Martinez, a male-bodied person with a feminine nature, who was brutally murdered at the age of 16. The film interweaves this tragic story with an exploration of Native American culture and gender.

The May-June 2001 issue (Vol. 37, No. 3) of progressive Christian magazine, The Other Side, included pioneering cluster of four articles (available free online) relating to transgender issues, with authors Virginia Mollenkott, Erin Swenson, Chris Paige, and Robyn Shaynor, considering both personal and theological concerns.

This classic 20-minute film from 1991 predates the widespread acceptance of the term "Two Spirit" and references "berdache" regularly. Yet it also offers a nuanced exploration of gender and acceptance in Native contexts.
